Craft 系列开源应用：对照官方仓库核实的 Adobe 替代品

In late September 2026 a family of desktop apps began shipping releases from the storytold GitHub organisation. Each is described as an open-source, clean-room reimplementation of a commercial app, written in pure Rust. The names are the target with "Craft" attached: PhotoCraft for Photoshop, FilmCraft for Premiere Pro, PdfCraft for Acrobat, and so on. The GitHub profile of the founder, Brandon Thomas (user echelon), reads "Founder: ArtCraft, Storyteller.ai, FakeYou".

We cut video for clients, so we read the repositories and release pages, then downloaded the macOS builds of PhotoCraft and FilmCraft and tried them. This page is the map. Every fact is dated 2026-10-12 and sourced at the bottom; where we could not verify something, we say so.

The short version

• Free and open source. Each repository has both a MIT and an Apache-2.0 licence file, and the READMEs say "MIT OR Apache-2.0".
• Alpha, by their own label. Nine apps call themselves alpha and three call themselves pre-alpha. The projects' own estimate of "ready for real work" runs from about 38% to about 62%.
• Moving fast. Every app in the table below published a release on 2026-10-12, the day we checked.
• Independent of Adobe. The READMEs state that the projects are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Adobe, and that product names are used only to describe compatible workflows.

Which one is ArtCraft?

ArtCraft itself is a different product. The repository storytold/artcraft (latest release v0.41.0 on 2026-09-26) describes "the IDE for artists": a canvas for generating and composing AI images and video. It is not an Adobe clone. The Craft apps share its brand and a launcher, which is why a search for "artcraft adobe" mixes the two.

Platforms and licence

Release pages list Windows (x64, arm64 and x86 as MSI installers or portable zips), macOS (a universal DMG for Apple silicon and Intel), Linux (x86_64 and aarch64 as AppImage, Flatpak, deb, rpm or tarball, plus a riscv64 tarball), FreeBSD, and a WebAssembly build you can host yourself. Every release includes a SHA256SUMS file.

The code is dual-licensed MIT or Apache-2.0. The ArtCraft name, wordmark and logos are trademarks of the ArtCraft Team and are explicitly outside that licence, so forks must remove them. Bundled fonts and assets carry their own open licences, listed in each repository's attribution file.

Where to download

Use the official pages and nothing else: the app pages on getartcraft.com or the Releases tab of the matching repository under github.com/storytold. We host no downloads. Compare the file's SHA-256 with the release's SHA256SUMS before opening it.

An editor's take: what is usable for client work today

Client work means someone else's footage or files go in, someone else's software sits at the other end, and a deadline sits in between. Format fidelity and hand-off matter more than the number of menu items. Every one of these projects publishes a feature-breadth figure well above its ready-for-work figure; FilmCraft, for example, claims about 86% of Premiere's features and rates itself about 56% ready. That gap is the honest summary.

Our own rule for tools at this stage: use them on internal or throwaway work, keep every original, and never let an alpha app be the only path to a delivered file.

How we tried the apps: PhotoCraft 0.8.2 and FilmCraft 0.7.2, universal macOS builds, on an Apple M2 Max with macOS 26.3.1. We copied each app out of its DMG after the SHA-256 matched the release checksums, and macOS Gatekeeper accepted both as notarized Developer ID apps.
